As we celebrate the international women’s day today, there’s no doubt that this topic has been rallying round for quite a while now especially in the industry.

Over the years we have witnessed indelible and independent women in the Nigerian music industry – the likes of Simi,Tiwa Savage,Yemi Alade,Asa amongst many others who have given us nothing but music in one of it’s beautiful forms

It’s a no brainer that the industry is mostly dominated with men and finding their way all the way to the top will require extra dedication and consistency than what their male counterparts will put into their art.

However, these women’s achievement and appreciation is sometimes compared to the achievements of their male counterparts but all thanks to the incredible women who are slowly breaking the barriers in the industry and at the same time paving way for the upcoming female artists, just like the theme of this women’s day celebration says #breakingthebias.

The success of women in the industry should not be compared in any way whatsoever; and like the popular saying

Give honour to whom honour is due

let’s appreciate all our female artists and all the fantastic work they’ve put into their art.

Happy women’s day!

Here’s a highlight in Images showing our top shooters in the music Industry holding it down and inherently breaking barriers for young female creatives who dare to dream.

We simply cannot discredit the hard work young female creatives are putting in to solidify themselves in an industry that is male dominated. Below we have highlighted a couple young female creatives holding it down; in the case where we have missed a couple names like Keziah Mallam, Deto Black, Tome, Tosing, Kenti, Ayra Starr, Moyosworld, Mimz … Every artist highlighted and vice versa are great in their own rights.
