Located in the heart of Lagos, Mende stands as a testament to the city’s dynamic energy and cultural richness. Known for its bustling streets, diverse population, and vibrant marketplaces, Mende serves as a pivotal hub within the larger Ikeja area, one of the busiest and most populous parts of Lagos.

In his latest musical endeavour, rising artist Nú Baby utilizes the imagery of Mende to evoke the pulsating spirit of Lagos, the Afrobeat capital. With lyrics that poetically capture the essence of the city, Nú Baby reflects on its ever-buzzing possibilities while subtly expressing his discontent with the prevailing norms. On lines like “wan yahoo wan ni won maintain, won gawu so i no dey complain,” Nú articulates a silent defiance against the status quo, urging listeners to keep pushing forward despite the challenges.

Nú Baby is an independent Canada based afro-pop genre blending artist from Toronto who genre shifts, exploring and gaining influences from multiple genres like the likes of Soul, RnB, Pop, Afrobeat and Grime while infusing his own afro infused style through his Nigerian Pidgin and English lyricism to form his own unique afro-pop et afro-soul style.

He is known for his seamless stylistic use of afro-drums and afro-jazz saxophone renditions all of which is apparent in his preceding EP All The Love I Need, which featured exploration into the artist’s genre blending style. All The Love I Need features the energetic dance song, Danc/O, a complex intersecting piece of work blending jazz, afro-funk and afro-soul elements, Red Light Interlude, a dark blend of his signature afro-soul style with an energetically sensual yet mysterious sound that draws influences from genres like Grime, RnB, and Afrobeat as well as What Can I do a soothing catchy rendition laced with calming afro-jazz saxophones.
