Spotify, one of the world’s biggest streaming platforms, has unveiled its highly anticipated 2024 summer songs list. While some major industry names are notably absent, Burna Boy stands out as one of the top three Afrobeats artists making the cut.
Female artists are leading the charge this summer with Ayra Starr, Tems, and Tyla all making the list. Ayra Starr’s “Santa,” Tems’ “Love Me Jeje,” and Tyla’s “Jump” have all been recognized as standout tracks.
Music Untamed gathered that the 30-song list, released just hours ago, features three African hits: Tyla’s “Jump,” Tems’ “Love Me Jeje,” and Tito M’s “Tshwala Bam Remix,” which includes contributions from Burna Boy and Yuppe.
Tems’ “Love Me Jeje” has been a standout track this year, spending two weeks at No. 1 on the UK Afrobeats Chart. Tyla’s dancehall anthem “Jump” has been phenomenal, breaking records with its seven-week run at No. 1 on the Afrobeats Chart.
This year’s Spotify hot summer playlist spans various genres, including pop, with dominant representations by Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift, and hip hop/rap, led by Post Malone and Kendrick Lamar. Other genres featured include Indie Pop, Country, Reggaeton, Afrobeat, Dancehall, and R&B.
