1. Can you take us back to the beginning? What sparked your interest in music, and how did your journey as an artist begin?
I’ve always been creatively inclined since I was 6/7 years old. That was a part of me that I discovered very early on. I discovered my love for fashion and then music followed. From then on, I always involved myself in choirs (school & church), went for competitions, sang at school events and from there, my love for music grew.
I dreamt of becoming a star but didn’t initially want to take the risk to actually do it. I was scared of the unknown and I ran from it for a couple years. But music found me again and so far, I’m glad it did.
2. What was it like being in the studio with Tim Lyre, and how was “Instantly” created?
It was very easy. One of my best sessions with another artist if I’m being very honest. I could easily bounce off the energy he gave. I love when it flows that smoothly.
We started off skimming through beats to find the ‘right one’. A couple seconds into hearing instantly’s beat and I was sold. He had already recorded his part so I wrote and recorded my magic to finish up.
3. What inspired you to choose the stage name “KOLD“? How have you kept your brand and music quality strong over the years?
Kold AF embodies all that I am. I wanted something very bold and captivating. Looking at my style, music and everything related to my brand, my name does justice.
I and my team have included things intentionally to the brand so it all connects and I have personally maintained being myself – The best version (I’m not there yet)
I style and design for myself, my music has morphed continuously, thanks to self-discovery and amazing A&R work by my manager, Excel Joab. It’s a culmination of everything and as we get bigger so will the brand in the scale I know it will be.
4. Who have been your biggest supporters and mentors, and how have they influenced your growth as an artist?
God first. The favor has been immense and that’s all to Him
Excel Joab my manager has been my biggest supporter. I can’t begin to explain his influence, it’ll be longggg. Since 2020, his influence basically helped shape my sound & journey, he helped me see what I can truly do. I’m so blessed to have him in my corner.
He calls me ‘ANINO DO ALL’, although playfully, I know he fully believes it and he’s belief in me is one of the things that keeps me going.
Deola Jaiyesimi is another of my biggest supporters. He had been showing support even before I met him. He’s contributed to my career in a silent but very impactful way and I feel extremely grateful to have a force like him rooting for me.
Special shout to the major DSPs and their staff, they’ve been supportive of me and I have been amazed time and time again in their belief in me and I don’t take it for granted.
Last but not the least, my mum & brother. These two have been there for me in many ways. My mum’s always been there however she can. My brother does everything from acting as my road manager when he’s back from school, to taking on roles of assistant, photographer, videographer, everything. Nah he’s the best.
There’s so many people who have been a part of this that I’m blessed to have but can’t mention. I deeply appreciate everyone of you!
5. What advice would you give to young artists trying to find their voice and place in the music industry?
Strive for originality and be self-aware. Never lie to yourself. All those fire emojis are cute but impact is the real metric. I think, be open-minded but conscious of your vision so you don’t stray far from it. I’m still learning though, I do all but I don’t know all lol and have ways to go but this is what I can tell you so far from my experience.
6. What has been the most rewarding moment in your career so far, and how does it motivate you to continue pursuing your passion for music?
My small/big wins altogether and People’s reaction to the music I work hard to create will always be IT for me. That there are people who connect with me is amazing. Although, I’m prepared for not so positive criticisms, they come with the territory. My impact is what I’m focused on rather than pushback.
7. What can your fans expect from you in the near future? Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations you’re excited about?
Greatness. Versatility. Experimentation.
Most importantly QUALITY. I will get to the point that when you hear I’m involved, you know it’s top tier.
I’m in a new era, the afro dancehall era. I’m loving every second of it and I promise – a different side to me will be seen/heard.
I have an exciting new E.P, ‘KAUTION’, coming out September 13th. I’m so pumped for this! No misses. Anticipate and pre-order it here.
8. Having watched your stage performances, it’s clear how much you love being on stage. Is there a dream stage or venue where you’re especially eager to perform?
There are so many. Every major stage you can think of and even the ones you can’t, I want to dominate it. Major festivals, 6 digit capacity venues, stadiums and beyond. If I had to say, The O2 arena is one of the top venues on my list.
9. Can you describe your journey in 5 words?
Thriving, Insightful, Beautiful, Demanding & Fated
