Waye in Her Own Words
Q: Who is Waye?
Waye: Waye is a big ball of cosmic energy, one of one—a multidimensional and multifaceted being, healer, seer, teacher, and mystic. I am everything.
Q: What type of music do you make?
Waye: Lmao, Waye types cosmic music. Shit!
Q: What’s your process for making music?
Waye: I’ve always had many processes. I never miss meditation. I get sun first thing in the morning and put my bare feet on the soil. I speak into the universe—and into my water—about what I want to create. I play with the elements; they walk with me. Sometimes I write in the studio, other times under my lemon tree or in bed. Producers can play beats for an hour and I’ll sing on every single one—complete songs—without stopping.
Q: Tell us a little bit about “Venus.”
Waye: Venus is the brightest star after the sun and moon. As a Libra, Venus is my planet. The song “Venus” was my cry for help—I felt like I didn’t belong. I was surrounded by people who weren’t deep enough. I wanted to experience something new, to be around people like me. I wrote it when I was sad and in pain.
Q: Do you feel like you’re from a different planet?
Waye: Yes, I do. I already live a magical life here on Earth—I must come from somewhere else.
Q: Is music a core part of your expression?
Waye: Music is the center of my soul. It’s how I express who I am.
Q: Tell us a fun fact about you.
Waye: I’m very shy 😂
Q: What makes your music stand out?
Waye: I’m a unique being. Everything I do stands out. My music comes straight from source—bloodline and ancestry. Whatever comes from that is one of a kind.
Q: What are your musical influences?
Waye: Everything and everyone I’ve ever listened to. Every artist, every sound, and that spirit within me that creates the songs.
Q: How do your roots influence your art?
Waye: I’m Edo and Yoruba, but I grew up in Kano. I talk about Kano all the time and add Hausa to many of my songs. I’ll soon have a project about my time in the north.
Q: Does your personal style translate into your music?
Waye: Loooool multidimensional cosmic baddie? Hell yeahhhhhhh.
Q: When do you feel most like yourself?
Waye: When I’m alone and when I’m at the beach.
Q: When did you realize you were meant to make music?
Waye: I think I always knew. I performed in secondary school, rapped at Christmas carols, and wrote music.
Q: Does your music speak to the soul?
Waye: Yup! My music is pure, unfiltered soul—soul to soul, you go.
Q: Which of your songs best describes you?
Waye: Healer.
Q: When do you feel most in sync with music?
Waye: Every day. Especially when I’m alone and there are beats.
Q: What does divinity mean to you?
Waye: Divinity is me. It’s being one with the source, having powers beyond the physical—being connected to something greater than your body.
Q: You’ve said you’re an “old soul.” Do you believe you’ve existed before?
Waye: Yeah, I’m an immortal in a mortal body. I’ve lived a million lives and keep coming back for a mission.
Q: Describe your musical journey in five words.
Waye: Divine. Orchestrated. Elevation. Magic. Growth.
Q: Do you consider yourself a master of disguise?
Waye: Yeah! I shape-shift a lot. You’ll always think you’re talking to someone else. My looks and body always change.
Q: Do you feel like a different person around others?
Waye: Always! I love people, but they exhaust me, bruh.
Q: If you weren’t making music, who would Waye be?
Waye: A bad bitch touring the world 😂. Kidding. Music is my world. I’d be a filmmaker and fashion creative—but I already do all that.
Q: You’re known for your bold fashion sense. Any dos and don’ts?
Waye: Lmao throw away those skinny jeans 😂. There are no rules in fashion—just don’t look wack.
Q: Where does your passion for styling come from?
Waye: Money! Lmaooo. But also, no one can see people the way I do. I bring out their fashion potential. Styling through Waye’s eyes—nobody can do it like me. The world will see that soon.
